Pancreas, the gland located deep in abdomen is an organ that has two types of glands: exocrine glands (responsible for producing juice that helps break down food) and endocrine glands (which release hormones that help regulate blood sugar). Though gradually worsening persistent abdominal pain with progressive symptoms of inadequate absorption of nutrients and development of diabetes mellitus because the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin.
Causes:
Pancreatic duct joins common bile duct before entering the duodenum, first part of small intestine. The most common cause of acute pancreatitis is temporary blockage of pancreatic duct by a gallstone. Less common causes include injury to the pancreas, other obstructions to pancreatic duct such as stones that may form when the blood calcium is too high, viral infection by mumps, alcohol abuse, adverse reactions to certain drugs or a peptic ulcer that has penetrated the gut wall and damaged the pancreas.
    Symptoms:

  • Abdominal murmur
  • Acute pancreatitis causes sudden severe upper and central abdominal pain that spreads through to the back, and often accompanied by vomiting and shock
  • Chronic pancreatitis can lead to diabetes or pancreatic cancer
  • Constricting dull pain in epigastric region and left hypochondria, periodically turning spasmodic
  • Flatulence, tearfulness
  • Heart and respiratory rates are often elevated
  • Internal bleeding
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Steatorrhea, oily, smelly stool
  • Pain in upper abdomen that may radiate to back
  • Rapid pulse
  • Skin and eyes appear to be yellowish
  • Tendency to diarrhea, worsen after eating dairy foods and sweets
  • Tenderness in abdomen or heavy sensation after meals
  • Unexplained weight loss from a lack of pancreatic enzymes hindering digestion
  • Urination dark, cloudy
  • Weakness and fatigue

Risk: The factors for damaging pancreatitis may include; •smoking
•diabetes
•chronic pancreatitis, most often the result of alcoholism, and less often of cystic fibrosis •Hypercalcemia may cause by overactive hyperparathyroidism, high triglycerides
Diagnosis: Diagnosis is by finding increased levels of pancreatic enzymes in blood and tests to discover gallstones or other causes are performed. After an attack symptom usually subside and blood enzymes return to normal within few days. It is based on blood tests of pancreatic function and x-rays, ultrasound.
Prevention: following may help to reduce the risk, if:

  • Avoid alcohol consumption
  • Avoid pancreatic toxins
  • Following a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
  • Getting regular exercise
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Quit smoking
  • To add, water in nutrition is more essential than food itself. It’s an essential component of blood, lymph, bodily excretions as well as every part of each cell in body. At same time drinking cold or hot water matters. Cold one is not as good for hydration as room temperature; it causes blood vessels to shrink near the stomach and slowing absorption, so, add lukewarm water. Pancreatitis can cause dehydration, so drink more fluids throughout the day.

Endocrine system that regulates the mammary glands and become functional in response to hormonal changes associated with parturition. A woman who has not borne children consists of a conical disk of glandular tissue of mammary gland, which is encase in variable quantities of fat that give its characteristic shape. The glandular tissue itself is made up of 15–20 lobes composed of solid cords of ductal cells; each lobe is sub-divided into many smaller lobules, separated by broad fibrous suspensory bands, which connect the skin with fascia, or sheet of connective tissue, that covers pectoral muscles beneath the breast. A separate excretory duct drains each lobe. These converge beneath the nipple, where they widen into milk reservoirs, before narrowing again to emerge as pinpoint openings at the summit of nipple.
Hormones induce the real secretion of milk prolactin from pituitary and somatomammotropin from the placenta. At the end of lactation, the mammary glands and areolae return almost but not completely to their state before pregnancy. After menopause, glands atrophy and are largely replaced by connective tissue and fat.
Diseases and abnormalities of breast;

  • Painful breasts may occur when estrogens are present in large amounts, as at puberty, during pregnancy, prior to menstruation, or after administration of estrogens.
  • Fibrocystic disease, may result in later reproductive life from cumulative effect of ebb and flow of endocrine stimulation with each cycle; this produces nodular fibrosis or lumps of fibrous tissue and cysts of various sizes, also called chronic cystic mastitis. The condition can usually be distinguished from cancer because it is intermittently painful and tends to subside after menstrual periods. However, it may predispose to carcinoma.
  • Lumps are quite common in women breast and most are benign.
  • Most are due to hormonal effects on glandular tissue causing areas of lumpy tissue.
  • Early biopsy is indicated for any nodules that persist.

Condition of such abnormalities of breast such as;

    • Acute pains or painful breasts
    • Dry and peeling skin
    • Galactorrhea; mostly associated with hyperprolactinemia and thyroid conditions with elevated levels of TSH or TRH (thyrotropin-releasing hormone).
    • Hair growth
    • Stiff fibrous masses
    • Stiff tissue of mammary gland
    • Bacterial infection may develop in affected milk duct, and untreated infection could lead to an abscess

Key Points “acupuncture describes a family of ways involving stimulation of anatomical points on body using a variety of techniques. Technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic micro needles that are manipulated in miniature form of hand by energy flow. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needle is inserted. Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Improper needle placement, movement of patient, or a defect in needle can cause soreness and pain during treatment.
