HEART burn also called acid indigestion, a painful burning feeling in chest or throat. Normally happens when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, the tube that carries food from mouth to stomach. If experiencing frequent heartburn or more than twice a week, one should consider having gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD); food sticking, blood or weight loss may be associated with a more severe problem, such as oesophagus and Barrett’s oesophagus. With GERD, muscles at the end of esophagus do not close tightly enough; this allows contents of stomach to back up, or reflux, into oesophagus that irritate it. The condition is linked to unhealthy living and a poor diet and one of the most common digestive disorders, also caused by small amounts of acid from stomach rising up into gullet. It unlike stomach does not have a protective lining therefore when it is exposed to acid, it can become inflamed and painful-leading to sensation of heartburn. GERD is a common condition caused by regurgitation (reflux) or backwash of stomach acid into oesophagus from the stomach. At times, acid even may regurgitate into the back of throat and reach the lungs. Though it’s most common symptom of acid reflux, it is not the only problem. If you have other symptoms such as crushing chest pain, it could be a heart attack.
One should try-natural remedies for heartburn; Avoid Heartburn trigger foods, beverages that most commonly trigger heartburn include:
Citrus fruits, juices, chocolate, peppermint, excessive alcohol consumption, particularly red wine, tomatoes and tomato-based products, greasy or spicy foods, fatty or acidic foods, caffeinated beverages such as coffee, carbonated beverages, such as colas.
Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Large meals expand stomach and can increase up pressure against esophageal sphincter. Wait at least 2 to 3 hours after eating to head to bed, not eating close to bedtime. Symptoms are much worse if to put yourself in a horizontal position with a stomach full of food and fluid; so, the best way to treat it is not to go to bed after you have eaten.
Gravity helps keep stomach juices from backing up into oesophagus and assists flow of food and digestive juices from stomach to intestines ~ why if having heart burn may feel better standing up right after eating than laying down.
Elevate your head while sleeping. Laying down flat presses stomach’s contents against lower oesophageal sphincter (LES), which is connection between oesophagus and stomach. With head higher than the stomach, gravity helps reduce this pressure. One can elevate head a few inches in a couple of ways. You can place blocks or anything that’s sturdy securely under legs of your bed at head. You can also use an extra pillow, or a wedge-shaped pillow, to elevate your head.
Don’t Smoke. Nicotine relaxes esophageal sphincter. Smoking also stimulates production of stomach acid.
Relax-while stress hasn’t been linked directly to heartburn; it is known that it can lead to behaviors that can trigger heartburn. Follow these relaxation tips to ease stress, and thus make stress-related heartburn less likely.
Losing weight if obesity contributes to the problem.
Wearing loose-fitting clothes.
Try: •Baking Soda, a natural antacid. If you dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in 8 gerdounces of water, it can neutralize acid and temporarily reduce heartburn caused by acid reflux. There are some drawbacks, however, to this. When you add baking soda to water, it releases carbon dioxide. That’s what causes fizz. This fizz can open LES to enable you to burp, and help relieve pressure from bloating. Unfortunately, though, opening LES can also allow stomach contents to reflux up into esophagus.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Bananas, act as natural antacid in body, can eat either fresh, dried bananas.
  • Chamomile Tea, used to help neutralize stomach acid, can also be used as a stress reliever.
  • Ginger is one of the oldest remedies for heartburn, also used to help treat nausea.
  • Turmeric helps stimulate digestion and prevent acid build-up.

Symptoms also suggest that somehow damage have already occurred include:
Bleeding: vomiting blood, or having tarry, black bowel movements.
Choking: sensation of acid reflexes into windpipe causing shortness of breath, coughing, or hoarseness of voice.
Dysphagia: difficulty swallowing or a feeling that food is trapped behind the breastbone.
