Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) may refer to chronic bronchitis and emphysema that often occur together, later makes it difficult for one to breathe smoothly.
If someone is diagnosed with COPD, tubes called airways, carry air in and out of the lungs, these airways may become partly blocked from inflammation and thickening that makes it more difficult to breathe.
At the end of airways are many tiny balloon-like air sacs, which inflate and deflate when to breathe in and out, these air sacs lose their elasticity. This can also make it more difficult to get air in and out of lungs: but at the same time TriOrigin a powerful tool to cope up with such conditions!copd
Causes may be because of cigarette smoking the most common. Being around secondhand smoke – from others who smoke also plays a role in an individual developing COPD. Other cause includes long-term exposure to other irritants, such as: Chemicals, Dust, Air pollution.
In rare cases, genes may play a role. Persons who lack a protein called alpha 1 anti-trypsin may be more likely to develop the disease. Without the protein, their lungs are more vulnerable to destruction, and disease tends to progress more quickly if they are smoker.
Repeated lung infections may also give to COPD or make it worsen faster.
Symptoms such as a cough that doesn’t go away, coughing up with lots of mucus, shortness of breath with exertion, especially while exercising, wheezing, tightness in chest, limitations in activity comfortably while resting. During exertion, though breathes start coming in before air from the last breath is exhaled, and shortness of breath results. Even excess fluid in the lungs can make breathing more difficult for someone with COPD or limited ability to exercise, climb stairs, or walk long distances.
Advanced COPD leads to high pressure on lung arteries, which strains the right ventricle of heart and further leads to symptoms of leg swelling and bulging neck veins.
COPD often occurs in shared risk factors includes ischemic heart disease, heart blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, muscle wasting, osteoporosis, lung cancer, anxiety disorder and depression. In those with sever disease, a feeling of being tired is always common.
Diagnosis through breathing tests or physical examination is possible or through spirometer, which is painless test. It measures how much air your lungs can hold and how fast you can blow air out of your lungs. Or may further include other lung function tests, a chest X-ray, or a test to measure the level of oxygen in blood.
So to stay healthier, if you are a smoker, of course the most important thing you can do is to stop smoking. Plus, stay away from smoke, fumes, dust, and air pollution as much as you can.
